The Economics of Economics

One would think that the last thing a sinking Republican president who has ignored the domestic front for 7 long years would want to do is introduce a $3.1 trillion budget that cuts nearly every domestic spending program creating the largest deficit ever as his last symbol of remembrance. As if it's not hard enough for Republicans this year to run on their trumps of morality, fiscal conservatism, family values and God's word, given that two sitting Republican congressmen are behind bars, one openly gay Republican tried to fondle his pages, while another in the closet gay Republican can't stay out of the bathroom stalls, on top of the fact the completely Republican controlled Congress created the worst financial situation this country has probably ever seen without one single veto from Bush; surely this final budget isn't going help them one bit.

As you can see from the graph, things were starting to finally turn upward for the Bush administration in terms of finances. But as you can also see this graph was last updated on Jan. 29th, which is before Bush's newest budget was released. The newest budget equals a $410 billion DEFICIT for this year. And a $407 billion DEFICIT for next year. That red line is going to continue to fall.

Seems to me that at the very least George Bush would want to give his fellow Republicans a chance in the November elections. Right now their only chance would be to run away from this president.

I understand that a balanced budget was not going to be possible this year. But a sound budget that at least figures in inflation would be a nice gesture to his party.

Tax cuts in a time of war...brilliant.

"Ignored the domestic front"?

The Bush economy is the best economy in American history.

Chris...You need to come back out to San Diego. I'll meet you at the Bitter End again. We'll do a Padres game. I'll set you straight.

Again.

Hey, what are you gonna talk about after your buddy W goes back to Texas?

Best in American history? Kent, see that blue line that keeps rising almost off the top of the graph. That's America at it's strongest. That's America at it's most fiscally responsible.
