Another one of Abramoff's boys goes down. John Doolittle not to seek reelection. What is it now, three sitting Republican Congressman have either went to prison or resigned or not sought reelection because of the federal investigation of Jack Abramoff. I'll have to get a count on that some time today.
*Update:
I stand corrected! After some lengthy review and heavy concentration I’ve calculated the precise number(s) from the Abramoff Scandal. Here’s the lengthy results.
- 2 sitting Republican Congressmen (Bob Ney, John Doolittle) resigned to go to prison (Ney) or decided not to seek reelection (Doolittle, who’s in up to his eyebrows) because of the ongoing federal investigation.
- 1 still sitting Republican Congressman Tom Feeny (R-FL) is under federal investigation for taking a golf trip with Abramoff to Scotland and then filing a $5,000 travel report with Congress.
- 4 Republican staffers, including Bob Ney’s chief of staff, Will Heaton; another Ney aide Neil Volz; an aide to nutjob majority leader Tom DeLay; and an aide to Rep. Don Young (R-AK) have pleaded guilty and been sentenced.
- Let us not forget J. Steven Giles, the highest ranking Bush administration official so far, the Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
