God's Standards

Well he finally did it. My man Huck finally stepped out from centerville and right in to coo-coo land. I totally understand he was trying to charge his base, but the view that we should amend the Constitution to fit God's standards is not mainstream America at all. I know conservatives love to think that they are mainstream but they are no more mainstream than liberals are. Huck proved that today.

If we were to amend the Constitution to the Bible which laws would we choose? The one where women can't speak openly and must first seek their husbands consent at home (I Corinthians 14:34)? Or how about the one that says women must dress modestly, i.e., covered (I Peter 3:2)? Or the one where we're not supposed to have any idols? That one would be hard for the Reagan believers. My point is this isn't the Middle Ages. We can't return to such a society. We can't possibly consider such a discussion as a positive direction for this country.

Aren't we fighting an enemy, a so-called global war on terrorism, that believes they are truly amending to God's standards?

Andy McCarthy at The Corner says it best. Yes, a Republican, I know I can't believe it either:

Huckabee is made to order for the Left: his rhetoric embodies their heretofore lunatic indictment that we're no better that what we're fighting against. Let's "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards"? Who needs to spin when the script speaks for itself? Where has Huck been for the last seven years? Does he not get that our enemies — the people who want to end our way of life — believe they are simply imposing God's standards?
