Disgusted

I don’t know if I have ever been as disgusted as I am today with the Bush administration, American media and those who blindly follow both.

The attack machine of the Bush administration must be stopped. If anything disagrees with Bush then it is immediately attacked. The way Bush deals with dissent is to pounce first by trying to discredit the person’s character and then bring in a 527 to finish them off. It’s sickening...CLICK CONTINUE READING!...

Today I paid $2.55 for a gallon of gas. Don’t tell me Bush has no control over gas prices. Fox News graphs about how if you figure inflation into the price of gas then really we are only paying $1.20/gallon in 1996 terms are laughable. This is not 1996 and inflation is still at its lowest levels in years, the comparison doesn’t work. Besides, if you want to compare today to 1996 the only comparable equivalent when considering inflation is that minimum wage is still the same today as in 1996. And that’s a very sad figure. It takes one half of an hour of work to pay for one gallon of gas. I’ll talk gas prices all day. Now show me where Bush feels your pain. He hasn’t paid for a gallon of gas his entire life.

I saw where Bill O’Reilly called the actions of a grieving mother camping in a ditch outside the Bush mansion in Texas bordering treason. That’s sad Bill. You know better than that. I don’t support Sheehan’s demands, but I do support her cause. I do agree with Bush that pulling the troops out now would send a bad signal and would actually defeat the very cause for which her son was killed. We can’t pull out now. We have to finish the job. Once the first drop of blood by an American soldier was shed it changed everything. I do blame Bush for sending us into this goddamn war, but we have to make it work. We owe way too much to the people of Iraq, to the American people and to the soldiers and their grieving families to just quit. Bush is right; it’s just not realistic.

Sheehan is not anti-American; she’s probably not even anti-war. How can someone who gave their son and all that their family had as a gift to this nation, who so proudly flies the stars and stripes outside their home, who now after their pride and joy was killed, along with almost 2,000 other American soldiers for a cause that a majority of Americans do not support, plus now after over two years of patiently waiting for Bush to make Iraq work by demanding that the president answer for his own doing be a traitor.

It’s funny to me that the fattest, laziest people on earth who could never pass a physical to join the military can sit and listen to the hate-filled speech of Rush Limbaugh and watch the most ridiculous of shows in Bill O’Reilly so that they can learn how to think and what to say, can even possibly have the nerve to question Sheehan’s sincerity and worth as an American. Fuck you Bill O’Reilly. And fuck you Fox News. Fuck your Harvard education Bill and your lack of chromosomes. If you are going to call her a traitor, someone who has given more than you ever have, then you are only yelling and screaming to make up for all that you lack.

This is a messed up world when a millionaire loudmouth can berate a mother whose son was killed in battle, only because she demands answers and does not want any other mother or father, sister or brother, son or daughter, to fill the same pain. Of course she wants it all to end, any mother would.

I think Bush becoming the most vacationing president in history while he sends mother’s sons off to die is much more of a disgrace. Sorry to interrupt your third vacation of the year Mr. President but there’s a war going on, and I’m sure every soldier sitting in that hot desert would love for a vacation right now. I don’t see how an absent president who never reported for duty while in the Alabama Air National Guard and who sent our soldiers to war on trumped up charges of WMD can be considered so patriotic but when someone disagrees with how he is handling the affairs of this country is considered such worthless Americans. If y’all want to sit and fucking bump peter heads, have at it. But I’m not buying into this don’t ask questions, just be patient, everything is perfect, don’t dare question the leadership of this country, anti-American, neocon hate speech bull crap any longer. Wake up people, things aren't right and we know it.

Makes me wish for the Clinton days. I would take a Clinton sex scandal any day over the Iraqi war scandal. I really like what you said here:

"and I’m sure every soldier sitting in that hot desert would love for a vacation right now."

It's good to see the anger boil over, cause when you can get to taht point, you show the true desperation. You have talked many times about how people who object to the war are not un-patriotic. I agree. But sometimes actions mislead true intentions

I beleive the media, not just CNN, of the big three, but Fox News as well, has turned this war into a circus. Dissent is common when veiwpoints collide, but the media wants to focus on that.

The truth is these men, I can't really call them boys after what they have seen and been through, have taken on a challenge that many of us haven't. The families have to realize that it was thier decision to take up the call. I want the mother you alluded to to grieve, it's natural. But what she is doing is for nothing more than the media. Again, the circus continues.

I didn't see the segment in question regarding O'Reilly, but it is no secret he isn't a nice guy. He comes at people like a bull. Horns down, looking to strike. But I understand his frustration. The circus must stop. But it is unrealistic to think it will stop.

I understand your frustration, I wish their was a point to which the two sides could meet. But I truly think that with our media like it is, it will never happen. Controversy is good, but a circus is better.

Thanks James.

You're site is great.

Please Craig, tell me more truths. I want to hear them. People's true intentions? I'm not sure what that means. If we are going to talk about people's true intentions, then yes I would really like to talk about the true intentions of Bush's invasion of Iraq. If she's doing it for a media stunt, how is that any different from George Bush pre-packaging news stories? I really doubt the mother is using her son's death for fifteen minutes of fame. But she is doing it for attention, but it's not for the sinister, dissenting view that you imply.

I'm not dissenting, I'm just pissed.

The pathetic Mrs. Cindy Sheehan has now taken sides with the jihadists who killed her son. If he could come back from beyond the grave, he'd curse his mother.

Where is Mr. Patrick Sheehan? Why doesn't he assert authority over his insane wife and tell her to shut up, or just divorce her? There's no excuse for this sort of behavior. It's not surprising that she is being used by Michael Moore, who is the #1 American traitor of the present.

The war we're fighting against fundamentalist Islam isn't just over there--it's here, too, and the Legacy Media has become, by and large, a Fifth Column of traitors who neither know nor care why America is the last, best hope of mankind, striving for a peaceful and free world.

i wish i watched the o'reily show in question. as for the mom, you can't blame her for being upset... but there are also quite a few parents who lose a child and support the war even more.

however, i'm very glad you pointed out that bush was AWOL in the guard way back when. i actually wrote a column on that very issue back in 2000, in support of al gore... he had the same MOS as me and served in 'nam. i'm a big fan of gore. do you think he'll run again? anyway, here's that college column.

Good points MJ; sometimes they just have to be made.
Let us not forget that there is a market for such as O Reilly that is why he is there. It is sad and it is disgusting but it is true.

The families may have to realize it but when one thinks of the way in which many of these men were recruited, often under false pretense as well, why should one not be angry/ furious. Is proud to have deceived young often uneducated women/ men into service and then blamed them for actually knowing fully what they were getting themselves into when they are killed or maimed. Hog FUCKING Wash.

As for gas prices, they are playing with us it is all a game, a diversion.

Excellent post, MJ. Seriously, it's not just a rant, its got principle and substance--it's good stuff.

As for archangel, he seems to be of the Fred Phelps religion of wife suppression. Examples below--

Archangel: "Where is Mr. Patrick Sheehan? Why doesn't he assert authority over his insane wife and tell her to shut up, or just divorce her?"

Fred Phelps: "Brethren, they can lock us up, but we'll still do what the Bible tells us to do. Either our wives are going to obey, or we're going to beat them!"

Not exactly someone I'd want to compare myself to.

Smink, thanks for reading. I was actually watching the O'Reilly Factor when Bill said those things. It's insane to say such things. You actually go a little farther than I when talking about Bush's military record. I didn't say he was AWOL, just didn't report for duty, which is true. But you know way more about AWOL and the military than I ever will. If you claim he was AWOL, then wow. I am going to check out your article tonight. I doubt Gore will run again, but who knows. Smink, you're the best! Thank you for your service to this country.

Alice, thank you. I really have no problems with O'Reilly being on the air. He can do whatever he wants in this nation, because people like Smink guarantee it so. I think his rhetoric is hate-filled and wrong. But it's the people that take everything O'Reilly and Limbaugh says as the gospel that really scares me. Those people are nuts. O'Reilly is just a loud mouth; he'll never shut up. I'll debate him one day, just wait and see :)

Thanks Woods. I was ranting, but I'm being very serious as well. If O'Reilly can question anyone's patriotism just because he has a talk show, then I'll use any language I want to question his discernmnet just because I have a blog. I agree with you about angel.

To all, I think if anyone really reads me closely here, I'm actually supporting Bush more than anything. I think Sheehan is wrong for wanting all troops pulled out. I think she is acting out of grief and emotion. I believe Bush when he says he can relate. And I believe that we have to finish the job in Iraq. But I'm not going to play stupid either. It's all way too serious for that.

Thanks to all for reading.

"..can sit and listen to the hate-filled speech of Rush Limbaugh and watch the most ridiculous of shows in Bill O’Reilly so that they can learn how to think and what to say, can even possibly have the nerve to question." - MJ I just keep reading this sentence over and over and just think to myself 'crap, people really DO do that don't they.' People formulate their opinions based off of only one source, which to me is nuts. But then again I am analretentive and have to have as must fact as possible to make a decision.

I don't have cites for these quotes but I think some are discouraged that her comments to the media went from this:

"I now know he's sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis", Cindy said after their meeting. "I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith."

The meeting didn't last long, but in their time with Bush, Cindy spoke about Casey and asked the president to make her son's sacrifice count for something. They also spoke of their faith.

To this type of remark:
"I want him to quit using my son's death to justify more killing," she said. "The only way he can honor my son's death is to bring the troops home."

People seem to be confused or concerned about her radical change in thought. I don't know that I have though this through enough to give an opinion about the change in thought other than she's a grieving mother and who is sane while they grieve?

Chris said...

Thanks for the visit HH6.

I'm not sure I can speak on behalf of Sheehan as to how or why her rhetoric changed. The only thing that I can point out is the time frame between the two comments. When her son was killed in action Bush was still given a lot of lattitude by the American people with his policy on Iraq. Since her son's death around a thousand more soldiers have been killed and Bush seems to still have the same hands off, don't question my decisions attitude. If in a year's time another thousand soldiers are laid to rest then I would hate to see how many more mothers join her.

Two things though. I'm not a mother and I haven't lost a single family member, much less a son to the Iraq war. To question this woman's patriotism as he sits in his air conditioned studio office was wrong on O'Reilly's part and anyone elses who has never been in Sheehan's position. But you are right about being sane, the loss of her son has definitely taken a toll on her, and rightfully so I might add.

People change their minds all the time. According the most recent polls, millions of people within the last six months have changed their minds about Bush and Iraq; Sheehan isn't alone in that regard.

But once more, I have to add that I think Sheehan's demands are unrealistic. I support Bush in keeping the troops there. And I support Bush in fighting the insurgency. Now I'm sure everyone who reads this site will note that my love affair with Bush probably ends shortly after those two statements.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your sacrifice. I owe ya a few visits.

I don't agree with everything Sheehan has said but I'd defend her right to disagree. If we pulled out of Iraq right now everyone that lost their life serving in Iraq would have died for nothing.I'm thinking we did that in Vietnam. Since I don't have my TV hooked to anything but the VCR/DVD player I didn't see the O'Reilly program. When I read about things like this I get the feeling there is no reason to get in a hurry to hook it back up.Can anyone tell me, when was the last time one of these media mouths lost a family member while serving their country?

I have posted my Question Of The Week, I hope you will stop by to answer it.
