“I don’t understand poor people, I’ve never been around poor people. I’m a white Republican guy who doesn’t get it. I’d like to. How do I get it?”
It is so nice seeing President Bush being candid. Like the time he called NY Time’s reporter Adam Clymer a “major league asshole” during the 2000 election. I was quite impressed with him then also. The born-again Compassionate Conservative using such language surprised many, but never altered the revelations his fellow Neocons have of him. Then there’s the time that big Dick Cheney told Sen. Leahy to “go f*** yourself!” on the Senate floor. The Religious Right seemed not to notice that either- or at least knew he would repent and be forgiven. Oh the feeble minds. Yes, being candid in politics is rare, especially when Bush ostensibly talks or answers to no one.
I am completely fed up with the controlling power of the Neocons- or Theocons, whichever term you prefer. The Schiavo matter has sent me over the edge, because I’m tired of God only being about gay marriage and abortion. But, what’s worse is the inability of the Democrats to do anything. I think the “wonder working power” the Neocons think they have is blasphemy, and I think the do-nothing cause we can’t find our ass Democrats are worse. I will say again, however, when you reduce religion to two issues of gay marriage and abortion and then run a national campaign focused on the crisis of those two issues, this is the result.
Jesus never spoke about gay marriage or abortion. In all of the Bible there are but a few verses about either. However, there are thousands concerning the poor and their plight.
Is there anything compassionate, or remotely conservative or Godly with the way Bush has dealt with the poor?
The biggest domestic “crisis” facing America is poverty. Because Bush is “Republican” and “white,” he knows nothing about it. His insistence that race plays a part in being poor or non-poor is disheartening, because there are millions of white people living in poverty in America as well. The main reason that Bush knows nothing about poor people, is because he has never been poor a second in his life and could care less about those who are. His actions speak for themselves.
In 2004 after being caught red-handed trying to falsify economic data, President Bush then attempted to classify jobs in fast-food as “manufacturing” jobs. Who works in fast-food? I bet Bush’s daughters never have. Yet there are thousands of families trying to raise children on fast-food wages. Also in 2004, Bush opposed any and all efforts to increase the minimum wage, even though 80% of Americans support that idea, and nearly 100% of the people working for the poverty wages support it.
However, large corporations saw the softer, compassionate, “white” side of President Bush when he proposed legislation that would have allowed corporations to not pay its employees overtime. In most cases, it was back-time owed for several months, even years. After much criticism and outright falsification by the administration, Bush pulled back his proposal. Then in August 2004, Bush finally changed overtime pay regulations without many voters noticing.
More recently, the administration’s support for tougher bankruptcy laws only favor large debt-enhancing corporations- who in turn are some of the largest donors to Bush’s campaign funds. I understand the need for people to be responsible for their own money, or lack thereof, but the law does nothing about those same corporations that stalk and prey on the poor and vulnerable with their only goal of increasing their holder’s debt. That’s favoritism towards the wealthy if I’ve ever seen it.
Bush’s newest budget proposal has no compassion for the poor whatsoever. Anything remotely considered “social,” Bush wants cut. His campaign to phase-out Social Security; however, is missing from the budget entirely. Anyone that argues against it is considered communist, atheist, Liberal and obstructionist. Can anyone please tell me Bush’s Social Security plan anyways? I wasn’t aware that anything has been submitted, which gives Republicans no right to chastise Democrats for not submitting an alternative.
And his budget is anything but conservative.
Bush is playing the God card with other people’s souls. I just don’t think Jesus would be so cold towards the poor. God is certainly more than two Neocon issues. I'm not sure Neocons have read the word that they so preach, because they have missed the overwhelming compassion for the poor that Jesus taught. If I were a Neocon, I would be a poor one.
