I've been thinking it's a little odd that nothing is said by the media about the polygamist cult in Texas being part of the Mormon Church. At least nothing out front. You really have to dig to find any mention that the cult is a functioning body of the Mormon Church. Wouldn't that be like doing a story on Opus Dei and leaving out the fact that it's Catholic? I just can't help but think that if Barack Obama was a member of a polygamist cult church following that Fox News and Rush Limbaugh would never mention the two together. Mitt Romney, a former presidential candidate and current VP hopeful, gets another free pass by our media establishment.
If Rev. Wright's church had a polygamist sect that treated women like property I seriously doubt Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Neil Cavuto, John Gibson, Neil Boortz, Tony Snow, Karl Rove, Bill Kristol, The National Review and the entirity of the GOP would remain silent like they've done for Mitt Romney.

Big Love Quits, Leaves Open Possibility of Plural Presidency (Update)
Much to my demise, Big Love Mitt Romney has called it quits. As a blogger I have to come clean and state I'm ashamed I staked my reputation on his nomination.
As Mitt said today, "This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters [readers]… many of you right here in this room [blog page]… have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming President [a reputable blogger]." In that same spirit, I also concede that I was wrong about Big Love. I was wrong to think that someone could commit monumental flipflops without the public paying much attention. I was also wrong to stake my blogginess on the fate of someone who believes the Garden of Eden is in Missouri and when Jesus returns he'll return to Jackson County, Missouri to setup his new Celestial Kingdom. I honestly thought that people were past the sort of politics where values mattered and where people were taken at their word, even if they changed their word nearly every time they spoke. I was wrong and I've learned a lesson.
As Mitt spoke today defining his decision to quit his bid for the presidency, he gave noticeable nods to McCain for a possible plural presidency where Mitt can focus on the economy and McCain gets to be the tough foreign policy president.
I disagree with Senator McCain on a number of issues, as you know. But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Usama bin Laden, and on eliminating Al Qaeda and terror. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.Yes in a time of war it would be terrible to let a candidate who believes Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 win the presidency. Because we are at war, a war in which Romney doesn't want any of his five sons fighting in, he will quit the race for president to keep the enemy liberal insurgent terrorists from winning. Such a noble cause.
Since Republicans/neoconservatives are so against McCain's nomination, there is the possibility they would be open to a plural presidency, such as McCain as

A reader over at TPM has picked up on an interesting point about Mitt's sons, who have so gloriously fought in the front lines of their dad's campaign, but now that the campaign is over are they going to go serve their country in Iraq now? After all, Romney himself called the war the most important feature as to why he was quitting the race:

Big Love in Big Trouble?
Seems all signs are pointing in the direction of McCain for Super Tuesday, but I'm not willing to count Big Love out just yet. It is still very possible for the polls not to be figuring in early voting in most Super Tuesday states. But as you can tell from the image below, McCain's polling lead is huge. One noticable bright spot for Romney is California, which appears it could go either way.
Notice Utah where Romney has more than a 40 point lead. Wonder why?

Is It Really Over?
I’m sure in the very near future we are going to see more and more Republicans either jumping ship on McCain or trying to cozy up to their nominee. Just a quick glance at National Review’s The Corner and you’ll see the process at work. I’m not understanding, though, what exactly it is about McCain die hard Republicans don’t like, but do like in Romney. It’s not like Romney is mister conservative by any stretch of the imagination. Less than a year ago he was pro-choice, pro-gay, and anti-gun and according to Christian doctrine is anything but. Now I know Romney is currently
saying all the right stuff that conservatives want to hear. He’s spent millions of his own fortune trying to convince people that the 90s didn’t happen and that he was never left of center. He’s done a relatively good job of it as monumental flip-flops are concerned. But what I’m not getting is how Big Love Romney is any more conservative than someone who has been in the senate for decades and has one of the most conservative voting records out there. Why is John McCain so repulsive to Rush Limbaugh and the right wing nut jobs?

Big Love Gets Big Loss
I'm ashamed that I ever stuck my neck out for Big Love Mitt Romney. I thought for sure he had the best shot at winning Florida and winning the nomination. But not now. Tonight's loss has to be a huge k
ick in the nuts for Romney. And with extremely tough guy Rudy dropping out and set to endorse McCain, none of today's happenings can possibly be good news for Team Romney. But if there is anyone on planet earth that can forget history and spin reality it's Big Love Romney.
So maybe he'll turn this kick to the groin into just a slap on the ass and have one heck of a Super Tuesday showing. After all, Big Love has went from pro-choice, anti-gun, pro gay marriage to actually being considered the most conservative candidate in the race in a matter of a few short months. Spinning a mere loss in the third most populous state in the Union should be no big deal.

Romney's Last Stand
Could tomorrow really be Big Love Romney's last stand? I can't see how another second place finish is going to benefit Romney, but I also don't see him bowing out just yet if he doesn't win it. Given the money's he spent he should probably own all of Iowa and New Hampshire by now, but Michigan is Romney's home state. A state where his father was governor and a state that is economically at odds with every politician out there right now. A second place finish isn't the end of the world for Romney though it's gotta feel like getting kicked in the nuts really hard.
As we can see Romney still holds a solid enough lead over McCain, and let's not forget about Huckabee polling a respectable third. Maybe Joseph Smith will send Big Love some kind of revelation and he'll pull off some sort of miracle. If Romney doesn't win Michigan I'm not sure I'll have any interest in watching any more election coverage.

The Biggest Free Pass Ever
What would you think if I told you that Hillary Clinton believed herself to be a prophet of God and that she was ordained by the Christian church as someone who receives revelations from God Almighty? By her ordained priesthood, she has taken an oath to her church before God and man that she will seek His council and will not act until she receives a revelation from God for every single decision that she makes, including those as president. Based on her commitments to her church and the other prophets, she believes that America is favored over all other nations by God and that God has ordained her to lead this great country based on His guidance. Her decisions will be God’s, carried out by her divine revelations. Since God favors America over all other nations, He will one day return to set up his new kingdom in Jackson County, Missouri.
Never mind what you might think for the time being. What do you think Rush Limbaugh would say about someone who believes such? Or how about super tough guy Bill O’Reilly, do you think he would give someone like Hillary a free pass? Or better yet, how about the millions of so-called and self described, values voters on the Christian right? Would they really look past Hillary’s latter day prophecy skills and her belief that the Holy Bible is actually only half the story of God and his relationship with mankind and that the State of Missouri is the actual Holy Land? It would be a totally different game if Hillary believed all this. But since it’s Mitt Romney, the talking entertainment heads on the right, and a huge chunk of the MSM, never even touch on it.
Even if it wasn’t Hillary, if it were John Edwards or Obama, they would be painted as the biggest whack jobs this side of Mars for believing what Romney does. Limbaugh would love for Romney to be running as a Democrat.If this was Hillary there's no way the media would ever lay off of it.

Left Behind
I gotta agree with Ezra on this. To suggest that religion ought not matter when choosing a president and then on the other hand mention that he's a Christian just like the rest of us, is disappointing and misleading on a lot of fronts.

mons consider themselves Christians, but what about those Christians, like me, who don't consider Mormonism a Christian denomination? But, that only brings to light Christians, just like Romney did in his speech. The problem with the whole thing is not that he considers himself Christian or whatever, but that there are millions of people in this country who are not Christian. Where do they fit in? And I'm not just talking about atheists either. I'm talking about Jews, who are not Christian and do not believe Jesus to be the Christ. Are Jews excluded from Romney's Mormon vision of America? His speech leaves a lot to be discussed, though I doubt it will get the attention it deserves.
That begs me to mention that I can't possibly fathom if a Democratic candidate actually believed that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri, and that when Jesus does return he will return to Jackson County, Missouri to setup New Jerusalem and his kingdom. I highly doubt that Hillary or Obama would get a free pass on such monumental (if not historically and theologically impossible) matters as what Mitt Romney is getting.
Having a media that actually questions candidates would be nice every now and then.
Not His Religion
As my first full post, I'll have to touch on Romney and his religion speech.
Can anyone really believe this? Mormonism, whether one agrees with it or not, is not about separating the state from the church, or vice versa. The basic fundamental belief of Mormonism is that the state is the church, hence why they started their own state, as well as numerous settlements all over the country. Joseph Smith, if anything, is not known for abiding by a secular federal government. And what can one say about Brigham Young and his beliefs in the separation of church and state?
