Begging and Pleading

Disgraced former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, pleads with Republicans to change in order to avoid a complete disaster in November.

We've been seeing this a lot lately: Republicans begging for Party change. We have The Next Right where Patrick Ruffini & Co. are promising to progress move the Republican Party into the 21st century. We also have Dr. Hanson's list posted on National Review describing what the GOP needs to do to progress change. And here we have the former Republican Speaker begging for his Party to do something.

I'm sure I'm not linking to every list or plea for help that's out there, but these are some very serious people, GOP operatives/talking heads, kicking and screaming for a change in the Party. And they are all sounding the same drum: November is looking very bleak; here's what we can do to minimize the damage as much as possible.

So what are Gingrich's ideas to make the GOP more voter friendly? Among others is to make a space based GPS air traffic control system! Yes, that's what we've all been demanding. And don't forget how important it is during a time of war to make English the official language of the country. Speaking of war, there's nothing in Gingrich's list about war, Iraq, Iran or 9/11. I just don't think it's possible for the GOP to sugar coat, or in Gingrich's case completely leave out, the most incompetent foreign policy excursion since Vietnam. If the GOP really wants to change, they would get rid of idiots like Gingrich.

Gingrich is an "idiot"?

There's not a single politician in DC with a higher IQ.

I heard Newt speak here in San Diego about ten years ago and I was completely blown away. Sad how the Democrats (and the press) have destroyed him the same way they have destroyed Bush. Democrats can't compete head to head on ideas, they have to slime people.

Let's recall with clarity that Clinton signed into law eight out of the ten planks of "The Contract With America," which Newt authored, and also that Newt and the GOP balanced the budget in the 1990's. Yeah, Newt's an idiot all right.

Now, as you note, Newt is saying some weird stuff and writing books at a rapid clip, but, hey, a guy's gotta make a living, right?

I also disagree, strongly, about "November looking bleak." The RNC people I talk with are thinking McCain is going to win by 50 electoral votes. I posted earlier this week on my blog about McCain's electoral strength.

The Congressional elections are going to be the key. But as long as real idiots like Nancy Pelosi are saying really stupid stuff (like the Iranians are responsible for peace in Basra, Iraq) I'm going to keep feeling optimistic.

Oh, and did you hear that the Fox News Channel has been tougher on McCain than on Clinton and Obama? In fact, Obama has gotten more positive coverage than both Clinton and McCain.

Yes, Kent, Newt is an idiot. A complete idiot and also a complete hypocrite. While Newt was busy pushing for Clinton to be impeached he was off having his own affair. He demanded that his affair was a private matter while the president's was apparently public.

The current Democratic controlled congress has pushed through more legislation and accomplished more goals than Newt's so-called Contract with America.

What's funny is that you completely trounce McClellan for writing a book but think it's smart for Newt to do it, and say they guy needs to make a living. It's okay for Newt to make a living just not Scottie. Actually, what's okay in the GOP Fantasy World is write all the books you want just don't dare speak out against our Anointed Leader. If you do that then you're a liberal.

I'm not sure who will win the presidential election, I do know there isn't a chance the Repubs are going to pick up a single seat in congress. If they only lose 15 seats they'll probably call it a Revolution or something. It could be a decade or longer before the Repubs start closing the gap in congress.

I would love to see where and how FNC has been tougher on McCain than Obama or Clinton. What did they do a self-study or something?

Good to see you around Kent. You always keep me laughing.
